My Interview

Interview Questions

What is your role in the film and what is your expected to do in the film?
I will be one of the agents that have been chosen to hunt down the villain who is Ghalib. Both I and Ryan will be part of a spy agency that is made to save the world when it is at risk. So when Ghalib is released into everyday life and he suffers from PTS and starts destroying everything then it is up to me and Ryan to save the world and stop Ghalib.

What is your previous experience in acting?
I have no experience in acting; I did not take drama at GCSE so unlike Ghalib I do not have that to help me. However I have been involved in acting throughout this coursework acting in the preliminary task so do have some practise.

Why is your role challenging and what is good about your role?
My role is challenging as it I something that I have not done before and something that will take a bit of practise. To be able to act as though I am part of a really important spy agency will be difficult but I do think that I will be able to pull it off. The good thing about my role is that I also have Ryan to work with so he could help me out sometimes to get me into role.

Who is your favourite actor?
My favourite actor is Johnny Depp, this is because he is a really flexible actor and I like this about actors. All of his roles are so different yet he manages to play them so perfectly and this shows very well about how much of a good actor he is.

Who is your favourite antagonist?
My favourite antagonist by far has got to be the late Heath Ledger who famously played the role of the Joker in The Dark Knight. He plays his role very well and very effectively. The way he plays a villain actually gets the audience scared of him this is how effective he was.

Soundtrack Research

Background Music- In our film we will try and put in some background music within the scene. This is what most the spy/agent films have, it is used and is very effective within the film. background music is used to add emotion and rhythm to a film. Usually not meant to be noticeable, it often provides a tone or an emotional attitude towards the story or the characters within the film. In addition background music foreshadows a change in mood. For example dissonant music may be used in film to indicate an approaching(but not yet visible) menace or disaster. This type of music is non diegetic music this is because it is music that the characters can not hear. The clip below is from the film jaws, this film is most famous for its well known soundtrack that it has. The film manages to cause a large amount of tension and suspense when this soundtrack is played, this is because the audience knows that something is going to happen and it is not going to be good.

Sound Effects- There are many different sound effects that can be used to create a large feeling of suspense.Synchronous sounds contribute to the realism of film and also help to create a particular atmosphere. For example, the “click” of a door being opened may simply serve to convince the audience that the image portrayed is real, and the audience-may only subconsciously note the expected sound. However, if the “click” of an opening door is part of an ominous action such as a burglary, the sound mixer may call attention to the “click” with an increase in volume; this helps to  engage the audience in a moment of suspense.

Evaluation of Preliminary Task

For our preliminary task me and Ghalib filmed a short scene where we walked up towards each other and introduced ourselves while asking how each of us was feeling. We done this by filming three different scenes with a camera provided by the school. Each different scene included different shot types and angles. For example the first shot type we used was a high angle of me walking up the stairs, and then for the second clip we used a low angle long distance shot of me walking up to Ghalib and preparing to sit down. Then we used a 180 degree angle showing both me and Ghalib having the conversation. This was effective because it allows the audience to see who is being involved in the conversation.
Both me and Ghalib managed to film this by ourselves just the two of us. We done it by one of us operating the camera while the other acted in front of the camera, it was fairly easy but did have some difficulties however it now will be easier as we now have Ryan in our group which is going to help us out a lot.
We were able to use some effects between each short clip that we filmed which were quite effective however i do think that we could of thought about it a bit more and put a bit more effort in to make it look even more professional.

Certificate Research

For our secret agent film that we are going to create we are going to rate it a 15. Most secret agent films are rated a 12, this is because most secret agent films include a bit of action but are never that bad that they include sex, drugs and discrimination. In a 12 you will hardly ever find aggressive behavior but there can be some in it sometimes. There is also no drug use to be involved in the film. Also no behavior is to be involved which children are likely to copy. This is all what James Bond goes by. However this is not what my film is going to go by and this is why my film will be a certificate 15.

This is because my film will include aggressive behavior as there will be a fighting seen and this is something that we don't want anyone under the age of 15 doing and this is why we have put a certificate of 15 on the film. There will also be weapons involved that some younger viewers might not like this is why it is a certificate 15. There may also be some strong language which we don't want younger viewers hearing. This wont be an 18 though as there will be extreme sexual scenes and also no extreme language.

Research and Planning Targets

A promising and confident start - but much more of your planning needs to be evidenced in order for you to achieve your target grade or above for this stage of your portfolio.  Keep pushing yourself to complete the task list provided and work collaboratively with your group in order to make sure your road to production is well evidenced and leads to success.  Have a look at previous examples of high-level coursework (such as https://chloebennettg321.blogspot.com ) to see models of the depth of detail you should be aiming for!

Story Board

Story Board

This are our ideas for our film and what we wanted to do from the start this a scene by scene storyboard and this what actually happens in the film. The storyboard gives you information about what happens in the story and gives you a step by step process of it. It tells you what camera shots are at what time of the film as they are descriptive pictures and writing of it.

Costume and Location Research

We are filming our opening two minutes by the alley at Leatherhead station and this is where it will be set. This is because it is close to Leatherhead train station which will also be a good location for a spy Football Hooligan film. This is because we will be able to use different camera shots on the trains leaving.
For costumes two of the characters will be wearing casual clothing as this is normal clothing that football hooligans wear when they go on away days for example when west ham go away to millwall it is all about wearing them Fred Perry polo shirts with the clean white shoes and casual clothing. Ghalib who is our last character and he will be wearing a parka coat as this is another type of clothing that hooligans wear and Ghalib is a Millwall hooligan. he is also wearing a backpack to show he is on his way home.

Genre Research for Agent films

For my opening couple of minutes that I am going to create it is going to be an agent film. Agent films are normally full of action with fast scenes and sometimes with high tec gadgets that help the agent get out of trouble when he is trapped. Agent films are just like action films but are generally based around the main character who is an agent. The most famous agent film around is James Bond, these are very good films and have millions of followers around the world who love the films. They are based around MI5 which is based in London and they have one agent who is obviously there best as he is set out on a load of different missions to find out about villains all around the world that might have something against the London secret service. There are many stereotypes that you normally would find within a spy film. The first stereotype is that they normally have a sexy girl as one of the main characters who tries to steal all the secrets of the main agent within the film. she normally causes a fight scene further along in the film. There is always normally a sidekick in spy films someones who is thought to be quite geeky and someone who wouldn't find them self in a fighting scene. However they always manage to help in a way for example by building weapons and gadgets that will help the agent when hes in trouble. There is also normally a face off between the hero and the villain which results into a fight where the spy normally wins. In all spy films the audience is normally tricked at the end when they think that film is over but then it jolts back into action, this happens in most spy films.
The main spy in all agent films is normally very manly and hunky a good looking man who is going to get all the attention from the women just like for example Daniel Craig. They are also normally very smart and dapper and walk around in expensive suits and drive very flash expensive cars like an Aston Martin.

Legend Trailer Featuring Tom Hardy

Legend featuring Tom Hardy is a film all about the Kray twins in the 1960's. The film is based around how the twins ruled London and the struggles that they went through on the rise up to the power that they held. It is also based around Ronnie Kray and the love affair that he has with his wife Francis. This film is in the genre of a gangster crime sort of film. This is very clear through the trailer and the stereotypes that the trailer shows. From the first couple of seconds its clear that this is a gangster film with what the main characters are wearing. We are introduced to both Ronnie and Reggie Kray and they are both being drove around like they are royalty and both wearing very expensive suits showing that they are both important and wealthy which are both stereotypes of a gangster films. Also within the trailer there are short clips of fighting scenes with weapons involved as well this shows that this film is also partly a crime film with the fact that we also see that the police are involved at the end trying to track the twins down and arresting them. Normally within gangster films it is all about money and there is a part in the trailer where Ronnie Kray says "we are going to rule London" while there is a clip of bundles of money showing that this is fitting the general stereotypes of a gangster film. The fast intense music also shows that this film is going to be exciting.

Strengths and Weaknesses of My Short Film

With my short film that I produced in my group there are a couple of strengths but much more weaknesses that i need to improve on next time, as it was my first film that I have produced I do think that it does look kind of good considering the situation. For example we did not use a range of camera shots within our small clip we used very simple straight forward camera shots such as high angle, low angle and medium shot which is the easy way of doing things. Next time when i reproduce something else like a small film i will definitely explore with the different types of camera shots and use them within my short film. for example camera shots such as establishing shots are shots that i think are more interesting. i think that my strengths within this film were defiantly the editing the way each scene swaps from one to another it is very smooth and professional like. Next time there will be much more dialogue which will make the short film much interesting and then maybe add some non digetic sound in the background to make it seem less dull.

My Short Film What Are You Doing Here?

50 First Dates Trailer Analysis

50 First Dates is a typical romantic comedy and its trailer truly backs that up with general stereotypes that you will find within a romantic comedy. The trailer is full of stereotypes for example most romantic comedies normally include someone who does not deserve the person who has fallen in love with them and this has clearly happened here as we see a middle age large man who isn't particularly good looking catch the eyes of a beautiful young blonde woman. Therefore this film conforms with the general stereotypes of a romantic comedy. Also within this trailer we see that the main character who is a man also has a friend who sometimes is seemed to look very annoying and inconvenient but can also be very helpful when his friend needs someone to be there for him. Just as every romantic comedy has there is a stage throughout the film where the audience are made to think that this perfect love story is not going to happen and this is just what this film provides as well as it seems he is going to give up on her in the trailer however he does not and they live happily ever after.

Bridget Jones Diary Trailer Analysis

Bridget Jones is the typical romantic comedy it is full of conventions that make it one and it is very popular because of this. The director has included many of these conventions within the trailer. This is clever because the trailer is what everyone looks at before they watch the film so the directors want to make it clear that that this is a romantic comedy and by doing this they are also wanting to attract there target audience which is women of any ages but mostly younger groups of women. The trailer starts with the main character Bridget Jones saying how she is going to sort her life out this is a typical convention of a romantic comedy they all have someone who is at a low in there life normally middle aged and then miraculously the love of their life walks onto the scene. This seems as though it is going to happen in this film as well. Next in the trailer we meet the supposedly love of her life and we see that he tries to charm her with his cheesy chat up lines, this once again is a general stereotype in these romantic comedy films. Later on in the trailer we see that everything isn't as it seems as there is another man who has fallen in love with Bridget and he is in fact her perfect man she is just not able to see that yet. This is another convention that is within romantic comedies, two men fighting over the woman. This shows that there must of been some disturbance in the love life of the two of them and this is yet another convention of romantic comedies. We are then shown that there is a fight between the two men later on in the trailer and we could only suggest that this is over Bridget. Another convention of romantic comedies is that there is always a humorous friend, in the trailer we see Bridget with two of her girl friends so it shows that this is definitely a film for women. We also see the parents of the main character Bridget, these are parents who are very sweet and caring and are also very posh this is another convention of romantic comedies.

Ride Along 2 Opening Scene Analysis

Ride Along 2 is a very funny film staring ice cube and Kevin hart. it is a comedy film but a comedy film with a twist as a bit of action as been injected into this film. From the opening credits you can definitely see that this is a action comedy. this is because we watch a car chase within the first couple of minutes and also a gun fight both these are general stereotypes of action films. We then are able to see that it is also a comedy through the little sarcastic jokes that are being thrown out in the scene mainly from the comedy king Kevin Hart. Guns show that it is an action film as they show danger but also show that this film is going to be exciting as well and this is the main thing that is going to keep the audience entertained. After watching the opening couple of minutes of the film the audience are able to ask some questions for example how are these two characters related and why do they have such a humorous relationship? The audience asking these questions is going to make the audience want to watch more of the film and then from straight from the start the audience are gripped. The music is used to show what sort of audience this film is aimed at. The pop rap sort of music shows that this film is aimed at the younger youth.
The Woman in Black Opening Scene Analysis

The Woman In black represents your typical horror film. Staring Daniel Radcliffe, this spooky horror film is all about a young doctor who visits a haunted house which is in the middle of no where. From the opening couple of minutes that i have watched you can tell straight away from the music in the background that starts as soon as the scene starts that it is a creepy spooky thriller. The old fashioned music that seems to be music from around the 40's is really effective because it is a high pitch sound which scares the audience. The props that are used within this scene are very effective as they are very spooky very very scary with old dolls and rocking horses they are used as they are the general stereotypes that you will find in a haunted house. in this scene we watch three young girls jump out of the window and kill themselves. This is very effective with the audience as from straight from the start it gets the audience asking questions for example why did they do this and what made them do this? The ending part of this scene is left with the high pitch scream of the mother who obviously has found her three daughters dead on the floor it is a very disturbing noise but as we are asking these questions it makes us want to watch more of the film hopefully so that we can find he answer to these questions.
Love Actually Opening Scene Analysis

Love actually is a romantic comedy staring Colin Firth, Kiera knightly and many other famous actors. From the opening couple of minutes it is made aware to the audience that this film is clearly a romantic film however there are no signs that it is a comedy. I can tell that it is a comedy because of the characters that are in it. Colin Firth for example he is a well known character who is involved in a lot of comedy films for example Mama Mia. The opening scene is a scene with Colin Firth narrating in the background and many camera shots of love all around us with families and many couples hugging and showing there love for each other. This is how you can tell that this film is a Romantic film because every single shot within the first couple of minutes of the opening scene is a picture of a two people hugging. this generally shows love and romance. the music used within this scene as well is also used to full effect and shows that it is a romantic film. the slow but calming and soothing music shows that it is a love film. This is because slow music is generally what couples listen to when they are alone. at the end there are credits and it comes up with the love actually title it is filled in red and this is because the colour red represents love this is because red is a very emotionally intense colour. it enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate and raises blood pressure. it has a very high visibility which is why it is used in the title so people can see it.

Jaws Opening Scene Analysis

The opening couple of minutes of the famous film jaws which is directed by the well known number one director Steven Spielberg is very disturbing and edgy. Jaws is a horror film all about a deadly shark that is swimming around the beaches of Amityville a small island in America. The first couple of minutes of the scene is very joyful and happy as we meet a group of teenagers who are having a good time together on the beech at night around a fire. Then the camera focuses of a girl and boy who seem to be getting on very well she runs off for a swim and the boy follows her. as i said up until two minutes in the mood is very positive and happy but as soon as the girl approaches the ocean the mood changes into an uncertain mood a mood which makes the audience wonder what is going to happen. they do this through the use of music or non digetic sound. to create a happy atmosphere fast pace music is used and then to create a scary, creepy atmosphere the director changes the music in the background and slows down the pace and pitch so it is very slow deep music which gives the feeling on the audience that something really bad is going to happen. when the action starts to happen the director uses something called dramatic irony, this is when the audience knows something which the character them self do not know. this is used when the girl is in the sea we know that there is something in there with her because a point of view shot is used in the water but she does not know this she believes she is perfectly safe and on her own in the ocean. this creates tension in the audience and puts them on the edge of there seats wondering about what is going to happen, this then makes the audience want to watch more into the film. Short fast camera shots are used within this scene this is when the shark attacks the girl. these camera shots are used to full effect and tell the audience that this scene is fast and intense.

22 Jump Street Opening Scene Analyis

22 jump street is a highly entertaing film that follows the first film 21 jump street both staring channing Tatum and Jonah hill, two undercover cops that go back to high school to catch the drug lords within the school. The second one starts with a very comical scene as the pair try and go undercover as two Mexican drug smugglers however it does not all pull off as easily and it becomes very funny. you can tell from the opening couple of minutes that there is a strong bond between the two characters and that it is very humorous, straight away this gets the audience asking questions if they have not watched the first jump street for example what is the relationship between the two characters and why is it so humorous? There are many different camera angles involved within this scene but mainly close up, this is used with effect because it shows the emotion on the men's faces and shows that they are finding it quite funny. This film is obviously a comedy but can also be thought as an action comedy. we can see this from the opening scene when there is a car chase this is a typical stereotype for an action film and is what makes this film one as well, also the fact that there is weapons involved this is what makes it an action comedy, normal comedy's do not involve violence or fighting and this makes them normal comedy films but as there are fighting scenes and gun fights within the first two minutes this makes this film and action comedy.

Saving Private Ryan Opening Scene Analysis

It is very clear from the opening five minutes of saving private Ryan that this film is definetly not going to be for the light hearted. It is aimed at people who can deal with a lot of gore and graphic scenes and if you can not deal with this then this film is definetly not for you. It is an action film set in the Second World War and it stars Tom hanks as a sergeant of a group of men in the American forces. If you watch the opening 5 minutes you will see that it is full of action with non stop gun fighting right from the start. This straight away catches the audiences attention and gets them excited to see the rest of the film. There isn't much music that is used within the first couple of minutes of the film the only thing we can hear is exactly what the charterers themselves can here and it is very effective as it helps us put ourselves in the characters position and it makes us feel sorry for them as we understand what they are going though. There are camera shots that show men walking around with arms missing and others running around burning alive and as we know from the Second World War this is exactly what happened it really does put the audience in the view of the characters. The whole beach where the scene takes place is red which shows it is coloured with blood and blood from all the men that we are looking at, it shows how disturbing and tough it must of been for the soldiers that spent everyday of there lives fighting for there country in these conditions. We are shown short camera shots of these American soldered literally crying before they run on to the beach kissing there hearts and hoping that they have some luck, it shows how these normal people just like us were put in these horrible circumstances.

The Analysis Of Scream Opening scene

The Scream film made in 1996 is one of the most well known horrors ever with millions of people all over the world watching it every day. Its so popular that Netflix have released a TV series based around the original film. From the opening scene and the opening two minutes it is very clear that this film is a horror. Straight away when the film name comes up there is a high pitch creaming in the bank round and voices which straight shows the film is trying to put fear into the audience. The high pitch screaming is a general stereotype that you will find within horror films and it is very effective as it gets the tension built up straight from the start as it makes the audience wonder who is screaming and why they are, it gets the audience asking questions.  The opening 2 minutes has a lot of edge of your seat scenes, for example the scenes where the main character does not know where the physcopath is makes the audience nervy as they do not know what is going to happen next but they do know that the villain is closer than expected. The main characters boyfriend is brutally killed this shows that it is a horror film unlike a action film when someone is shot and they die that is the normal cause of death in an action film in a horror film the causes of death are normally much more gory maybe someone's head being chopped of for example that is a general cause of death in horror films. The killer also wears a mask which is the same with a lot of horror films, this is because they want to stay Unknown.

The Dark Knight Analysis

The Dark Knight is a film that is jam packed with stereotypes that make it a action film, the famous film which stars Heath Ledger as the Joker and Christian Bale as the Dark Knight is a well known film for having exciting scenes that will literally put you on the edge of your seat. From the opening two minutes of the scene there is already about five deaths which shows of course that this is going to be a serious film. The first scene is of a robbery which straight away conforms that this film is an action film. All the characters that are robbing the bank are all holding heavy destructive weapons guns and explosives, this is a general stereotype of action films that there are going to be weapons so as there are some in this opening scene it shows that this is an actual action film. The guns in this scene shows that there is going to be danger and that the film is going to be a thrilling one.

The music within this scene is used to full effect, from right at the start when the film starts the background music is a deep thudding like a large drum which shows that it is a serious scene with a lot of tension as we progress through the scene the drumming then increases which then shows that the tension in the scene is increasing with it as well and this how the sound within the scene is used to full effect. The costumes in this scene are also quite effective the masks and ripped suits show how it is a film with a bit of fear and its a bit creepy but yet interesting and makes the audience want to watch more of the film. You aren't told too much in the first couple of minutes and this is another reason how the directors use this to get the audience to want to watch more.

Analysis of The Mechanic Action Film

Throughout the opening couple of minutes of the mechanic staring Jason statham it is jam packed with stereotypes that make it a action film. For example the fighting the fact that there is a death already as it is only two minutes in to the film. traditionally the villain in action films is normally a man and normally foreign sometimes Russian or Arabian mainly men with a lot and a lot of money. this is exactly what the villain is like in the opening couple of minutes of the film, you can tell straight away that the villain is wealthy as he is swimming in his own swimming pool that looks like it is inside a large mansions and he is protected by a load of body guards which also shows that he is partly feminine aswell and he is not a large man that can protect himself this is also a stereotype for villains within action films. For a film to be an action film there has got to be some action within it so for example fighting, at the start of the scene Jason statham creeps up on the villain and attacks him he then murders him and leaves him in the pool, he then needs to be able to get out of the villains mansion without being seen by the multiple bodyguards that surround it. This is where the action comes in there is a lot of fast intense running and then towards the end the main character jumps off a high bridge and lands on a boat and is able to escape safely without being seen, all of these parts of the scene are all put together and conform with the general stereotype of an action film.

Another unique part of this scene that makes it an action film is the sound that is used, the non diegetic sound so the background music is very fast and intense it builds up the tension and gets the audience excited this is what action films are so good at getting the audience interested and wanting to watch more and more of the film.

Mad Max Fury Road Opening Scene Analysis

From the opening couple of minutes of Mad Max Fury Road it is very clear that this is a post apocalyptic action film, this is shown through the fast intense car chase that we watch right at the start there is then a big car crash which shows that this is no boring film and that it is already jam packed with action. We can also tell that it is a post apocalyptic film as we see from the opening scene that the film is set in a almost desert looking location with nothing in sight for many miles . This indicates this is post apocalyptic film.
As part of the audience there were many questions that i felt like asking about the film that i wanted to know about. Half way through the opening scene the main character is abducted, a question i want to know is why he is being taken away what had he done wrong to be on such a bad side of these people and also where abouts are they taking him.

Friday, 9 September 2016

In the opening scene of this Action and adventure film I Am Legend staring Will Smith there has been many conventions embedded within the opening couple of minutes. There is a fast intense chase when the main character is chasing down his food that he needs to survive and also a hair raising adventure right at the start. This shows that this short extract of the opening scene shows many conventions of a action and adventure film.Generally there is always weapons within action and adventure films and straight from the start of the film within the first two minutes it is clear that the main character is holding a gun suggesting that he is in danger or he needs to protect himself from whatever is out there in the abandoned city. Another convention that action and adventure films have is that they are normally located within a big city, from the first two minutes we can see that the film is located in one of the biggest well known cities in the world New York in the USA. The film being set in New York will attract audiences from all around the world because they know exactly where it is as it is such a well known city, this makes them want to watch the film. In most action and adventure films they have furious cars which look good, the first picture we see is of a loud, fast red mustang driving really at a high speed through the lonely streets. Having this scene right at the start gets the audience excited and on the edge of their seat literally and means they are gripped from right at the start and want to watch the whole film to the end. Finally the last convention that im going to speak about is goodies and baddies or hero and villain, every single action and adventure has them and this is because they make the film really exciting and interesting. We can see from the opening two minutes that Will smith is obviously the hero and there is something out there which is the villain but we don't get to see whatever it is just yet.

What is your favourite film and why?
My favourite film is Legend that stars Tom Hardy who plays the role of Ronnie and Reggie Kray the famous London Gangsters. This is because i am interested in the violence and the history of both the gangsters and how they operate the whole of London as there own Empire.

Who is your favourite film director and why?
My favourite film director is Quentin Tarantino, this is because he has directed some really well put together films such as Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight both good films with really well known actors such as Leonardo Di Caprio and also Samuel L.Jackson. Both films have a thrilling and exciting story line this is why i like this director so much as all his films are really exciting.

Do you have a favourite genre?
I dont really have a favourtie genre i am keen on all type of genres they all excite me and get me really interested in the film, but if i was to have to pick one it would probably be psychological thrillers films with a bit of a twist that get my brain working and also it keeps me fully interested in the film.

What was the last film you watched and what did you think?
The last film i watched was the Amityville Horror, all about a man who turns psycho on his family's because a spirit over takes his body and the family has to try there hardest to get there dad back and the spirit out of the body. I thought this film was really good jam packed with action and exciting scenes but i feel it could of had a better ending.

What film release are you anticipating?
The type of film that im thinking of creating is a type of horror, i feel like they are the easiest to create yet they are the most effective. A horror where there is a phsyco hunting down anyone he can find in his nearby town.
