Evaluation Activity 8

Next year when we complete G324 I am going to want to make a lot of progress as i feel like i will be able to. over the summer i will do a lot more revision of editing as i feel like this is the main technical element that lack in. i feel like now after G321 that my camera composition is very good and also my mise en scene. maybe next time i could also look at improving our sound, using more of it and in a more effective way will make our work look much better and much more professional. if i would have done something differently during this process it would of too have been more organised when completing the work. i left it late with many tasks which means they were rushed and not my full potential so next time i will focus on being much more organised and focused. next year my work will be much better and all four of my technical areas will of improved.

In this evaluation task i will be talking about how we attracted or addressed our audience within the opening couple of minutes of our film. We focused on using a lot of genre conventions and the use of music and also similarities to other films to be able to attract our audience. Below are some captures of parts of our film where i believed we were attracting our target audience.

Right from the start of the film within the first 10 seconds we had already used something that is very similar to other films within our genre. Within Football Factory trains are used all the time throughout the film they transport the hooligans from place to place so we thought as an opening picture we would show a train going past to show the football side of it and also The south west train shows that it is located in London where West Ham football club are
based.

The next part of our film where i believe we attracted some of our audience is when the two hooligans realise who they can see and they start to chase him. this is where the film starts to get exciting as there is some action. some background music is also played it is fast paced to add tension within the scene. All of this attracts the audience as it makes things exciting and therefore makes the audience want to watch more into the film. This is another genre convention the fact that there is a chase scene. There are many different chase scenes in other similar films such as Football Factory. The last snap shot of the film that i have got is seen below. it is a capture from one of the fight scenes within the film. these fight scenes are what I believe attracts a lot of our target audience this is because I know that they enjoy a lot of action and fighting especially themselves when they are at football as my target audience are football hooligans. I think that when my audience sees this in the film they will be even more attracted and want to see even more. they will also willing to tell there friends about it this then increases the amount of people who come and watch our film. This once again is similar to other films of our genre. Football Factory is full of fight scenes that have a lot of blood and that is one of the reasons why it became so well known so we believe by including this type of scenes the audience will increase.

Below is a picture of a target audience member for our film. As you can see it is a male, we are aiming our film more towards male than female because there is a lot of violence and a lot about football and the general stereotype is that men prefer this more than women. He is a middle aged man. This is the age we will be aiming for our target audience or late 20's. this is because most of the characters in the film are supposed to be around that age as well so we believe that the audience will be able to relate to the story line. The whole films target audience are actually football hooligans these are the type of people we want to be watching our film as i feel that they will want to watch it more than others and will also be able to relate to  it much more. Our target audience will be hard working men. They will shop in shops such as Tessuiti or John Lewis these big branded shops would be perfect for our target audience as they will want to dress smart and causal as they are football hooligans. As you can see from our target audience member below he is wearing a really expensive smart casual coat. They would listen to old type of music such as the Beatles or even a new type of band called the Arctic Monkeys these types of artists is the music that our target audience member listens too. Their favorite TV programme would be Eastenders in the evening as it is the perfect time when they get home from a hard days work and are eating dinner while watching Eastenders. Most our target audience will be family men with kids and wives. favourtite food would be pie and mash just before a game on a Saturday. Lastly a habit that all our target audience will have will be going up the pub with there mates having a couple pints of beer as we feel like this is the typical thing to do if you are a middle aged football hooligan.

A production compnay may be directly responsible for fundraising for the production or may accomplish this through a parent company, partner, or private investor. It handles budgeting, scheduling, scripting, the supply with talent and resources, the organization of staff, the production itself, post-production, distribution, and marketing
Our production company that produced our film was called 'London Films' this is because our film that we made was a pure British film it was based in England and all characters were English. The film was also based on a set of English hooligans so we felt like it was only necessary to name our production company after the city. We felt like the name was perfect for a production company of a hooligan film. The logo that you can see below is the logo that we created for the production company. We think that the use of images and colours makes it the perfect logo and makes it look very professional and we felt like this was important as we were aiming to keep our film as professional as possible. This will be useful as it will be one of the first images our audiences sees and as long as it looks professional this will give a good effect to our audience and make them want to watch more of the film as they will know that it is not going to be some pathetic type of film. Our film would of used the production company to help them complete the process. Every single actor in the film is introduced in the titles this is because we wanted it to be clear of who everyone was and there roles within the making of the film.

As you can see from the picture above I have two snapshots from both main characters out of our hooligan film The Away Diaries and also another football hooligan film called Greenstreet. Greenstreet was the main film where we got our ideas from. It was the film that made us to actually choose to do a football hooligan film. I picked Pete Dunham from Greenstreet because I felt like he is your typical football hooligan then I also picked myself from my film The Away Diaries. One main similarity that both these characters have is their role in both their films. They are both two very powerful men and both have the main roll in their films. Pete Dunham is the lead man in the West Ham firm and I am the lead guy in the West Ham firm in my film so we both have almost the exact same roles. The pictures above show that we arent wearing the exact same clothing but both sets of clothing are very similar. Firstly you can not see from the pictures above but I am wearing smart black jeans with a pair of white trainers on and this is exactly the same of what Pete Dunham wears in Greenstreet. He also wears a smart pair of denim jeans with white trainers. On the top half we are both wearing smart jackets mine is black and his is cream then underneath these we are both wearing jumpers however mine has a hood and Pete has gone for a turtle neck instead. Overall both the characters I have chosen to analyze in these films are both very similar and do not have many differences.

Evaluation Activity 1

There are many ways throughout my film where my film shows typical sights of other opening minutes of other football hooligan films. Also it is the same with other normal films. We made sure that the opening title was at the start of the opening two minutes instead of towards the end. This is because we felt it would be more effective having the opening title at the start as straight away the name of the film will be getting into the audiences head and this is good advertising for the film production. As you can see from the snapshot of the final video our opening title is very clear and bold and this stands out to the audience when they are watching the film. This then means if they ever want to let anyone know about the film and suggest someone to watch it they are going to remember the name as it is so noticeable at the start. The font that I put the title in is I believe the perfect type of font for this type of film. The film is a hooligan film so it is thought to be very serious and at some times extremely violent however it does have some funny points to it with many scenes later on in the film being filled with comedy such as quick fast jokes. Adult humor that only our target audience would understand. So this is why I think that this font is the best as it fits the type of the film so perfectly.

The next part of the opening two minutes that I will be analysing is the setting/location of the film. As you can see from the snapshot below the opening two minutes is set down an alley with a train track beside it. The actual train station is actually a 30 second walk down from where we located the opening couple of minutes. This is a typical stereotype for hooligan films to be located so I was very proud with the fact that we were able to film there. In famous hooligan films such as Football Factory there are many scenes where it is being filmed down a dodgy alley or by the train tracks and this is because with hooligan films there are a lot of fighting scenes so to be down a dodgy alley where there is no one around it is the perfect place to set a fight scene up.

The next part that i am analysing is my third snapshot which is a long shot from the front. This shows clearly the costumes that we are wearing. It was quite easy to pick the costumes to wear, we looked at other football hooligan films such as Green street and Football Factory and we noticed straight away that in both films all characters are just wearing casual clothing so nice jeans, white shoes, hoodies and smart black jackets. This was very easy to produce as this is normally what we all wear. As you can see from the snapshot both me and Ryan are using this convention Ryan has his white trainers on with a hoodie and black jacket and I am in all black with a grey hoodie. Then with Ghalib in the next scene he is wearing a smart Green parka with smart jeans and Adidas gazelles which are the stereotypical football hooligan trainers. So as you can see we followed all of the conventions when it comes to costumes in football hooligan films.
The fourth snapshot that I will be analyzing is all about camerawork and editing. I used this snapshot from the opening two minutes of my film because I feel like it was the best shot to analyze. This scene starts off with a over the shoulder shot and then the two characters run off in to the distance and it becomes a long shot. So we used two different types of camera shots within this small scene. It makes this scene very powerful and grabs the attention of the audience as they see that there is going to be some exciting action within this particular extract. The editing within this scene is also something that im quite proud about. I edited so that each name fades in one by one then fades out. this just overall makes my film look more professional and well put together.

The last and final aspect of my film that I will be analyzing are the titles font and style. Throughout the whole film I stuck with the same font for every single title that I made. This once again made our film look more real and very professional as we didn't have random title fonts flying everywhere and just like i said in the previous paragraph for every title that i created i edited so that it both faded in and faded out which once again showed the professionalism of our film. I felt that each title was put in the perfect size font I believe that it was about a size 30, this didn't make it huge but wasn't too small either just perfect. We also believed that the type of font is perfect as well. We done a bit of research and watched the start of other football hooligan films and they all had fun yet not stupid fonts. This font suits that very well as it looks quirky and exciting and its very bold and in your face which is good for a football hooligan film.

Our Diary For the Day we filmed our film

We used period 5 on the January the 16th are last lesson to make our film which starts at 2.10 and we went to the alley by  Leatherhead train station at 2.20 and we went wearing our own clothes the weather was dull it wasn't a bright day which in sense suited our film as it was quite a violent film so bright sunny weather inst really going to suit our film. We decided to do a football hooligan film where there is two west ham hooligans chasing the west ham supporter after the football match when they where about to get on the train back home. After we finished the film around 3.00 pm we all decided to go home after we recorded our football hooligan film.

Character profile

Luke Trippas was a millwall football hooligan who tries to rob the west ham hooligan and he is in it with the other millwall football hooligan.  He is the aggressive character who tries and chases the west ham fan while they where on the train station. He just wears black trousers and a hoodie

Ryan Lewis is another millwall football hooligan who tries to rob the west ham fan as well and he is in a group with Luke trippas they try and beat up the west ham fan while they where in the train station they a really ruff fans and they don t like fighting rivals. Ryan Lewis is an aggressive millwall fan and he does not like loosing or getting mugged off.

Ghalib muktadir is the west ham fan who is getting chased by the millwall fans and they are trying to get him while they where at the train station but he runs away from them he is an innocent fan who is getting chased.

Our Final Film The Away Diaries

Football Hooligan Ideas

Institution Ideas

As a group we came up with quiet a few ideas for our film production name at the beginning but we needed to find a suitable tittle for it and we needed one that will garb the audience attention and at the end we came up with London films and we decided to have that name as our production tittle. we thought the other names where to cheesy as they didn't go well with our film and it just doesntt match it.

Below are a couple of production titles ideas:

Manchester films
The sensation production
AVM productions
Leeds studios
London films

opening scene description

The millwall fan is on the phone while he is on the train station and all of the sudden these two west ham fans who were talking to each other than they realize that is a millwall fan there on the phone and they shouts his name which are Luke and Ryan  and approaches him and started chasing him  across the train station than they go and beat him up and they use abusive language to make him feel bad and they are really aggressive towards him. They punched him in the face a few times and kicked him and put him in pain.

Editing Process

With the editing process the first stage of editing that was done was to cut down the clips to make sure that there is no extra sound in the background for example. This probably lasted a couple of lessons as there was a lot of cutting down of clips. In total the video went from a two minute clip to a minutes and 30 seconds clip so that shows how much we cut the clips down.
When the clips were cut down the next stage was to add titles at the start of the video so institution clips so we made up a company called 'London Films' and added London films in the title at the beginning then we added a couple of effects onto these titles to make it look even more professional. A picture of the London skyline was added behind title to make it look like the company is actually real. To make this opening two minutes look proper I tried to include as many titles as possible so for the next set of titles I introduced the characters and to make it look proper i made each and every title fade in then after a couple of seconds fade out this is effective on the audience because it shows that the film is professional. Even though there were only three of us in the opening two minutes I used a couple more names to make my film look more professional and convincing.
Towards the end of the editing process there was one last thing that I done and that was finish off with adding some sound behind the clips. Halfway through the scene when Ghalib is being chased i added some tense music which was effective as it put the audience on the edge of there seats. All of this editing came together to make our film.

Research and Planning Feedback

There are some very good pieces of high-level analysis evidenced on your blog - but you need to explore in much more detail the journey towards production.  Storyboarding, scripting and evidence of time-management needs to be considered and your journey would benefit from uploading of video-diary entries.  Show the enthusiasm for this production in everything you upload - and there is more to upload from you.
